I love being warm

Thank you!!

Thank you!!

Now I realize that winter is supposed to be cold but this one in particular has been absolutely ridiculous!  I mean, I’ve had the pipes in my house freeze and end up not having any water or heat until they got repaired.  This was a real inconvenience to me, although to be fair, I did get an excellent heater as a result of it.

I happened to be at a Target and thankfully I wasn’t the target that they were after.  HA HA HA!!  and yet, i came across a stand up heater made by a company called Lasko.  That heater was recommended to me from someone from reddit and I am so glad I listened.  I had purchased space heaters before, you know those stupid ones that you have to leave on forever just to get your room sort of where you want it, and then the moment you turn them off the room becomes bitterly cold all over again?  Yes, those.

They are so annoying to me!!

So you can imagine how I felt as I looked at the choice of heaters, I really wanted something different obviously so I got one for $60.00.  I recall thinking that if it didn’t work out that I would bring it back the next day.  Thankfully I didn’t have to.  The heater allows you to program the temperature you want and I like high 70’s to early 80’s so it worked out just fine.  So fine that it carried me the entire winter without being uncomfortable at all.

Thank goodness, although this time Chef Boyardee had nothing to do with it.

Anthony gets a new(er) laptop Part 1

x201

Recently I got a new(er) laptop. I say newer because its not exactly new. In fact, it came out in 2010. Still, it is quite a bit more updated than my Fujitsu Lifebook 4215 from 2006 is.

Well duh!!

For one, it has an Intel Core i5 CPU 2.53 GHz in it, which is a far cry from Core2duo 1.83 GHz. I also currently have installed 4 GB of RAM, and while it is the upper limit for my Lifebook, it only represents half of what can be installed on this laptop.  I also have the option of putting in an SSD which from what I hear would speed things up a whole lot.

Not bad eh?

my Lifebook

my Lifebook

The new laptop (to me) is the Lenovo x201. Immediately what I noticed is that it is considerably lighter than the lifebook, which is a convertible laptop. This means that it can be used as a tablet if I so desire although I tend to only use that function in GIMP.

I decided on the x201 partly because of its small size as I commented on above. I just picked them both up at the same time and I could tell the difference in weight. As it turns out, it over a pound difference between them. Which doesn’t sound like much but it really is.

🙂

The aspect ratio of the lifebook is 4:3 whereas the x201 is 16:10, so one is taller than the other. Can you guess which one? The lifebook has a 1024×768 resolution while the x201 has 1200×800. To compare the two in that regard well they are quite different. One having what I consider a warmer yellow glow to the screen while the x201 is whiter and brighter.

To be honest, I much prefer the Lifebook. It does have a nice square screen where the other one is rectangular, its wider but shorter as well. I guess it will take time to get used to it. I tell ya. what…I’ll turn off the light and see if it makes a difference for there is a yellow glow from the light above.

Nope not a difference, cause this ain’t a blockbuster video!

You know how you get started writing about something and you realize its a whole lot, and then you decide to just split into smaller parts?  Well that just happened.  So be on the look out for part 2 its coming up soon.

Facebook Is Buying Oculus VR | Social In Your Face

Facebook Is Buying Oculus VR, The Incredible Future of Virtual Reality

Completely out of the blue, Facebook has announced that it is buying Oculus VR—the future of virtual reality awesomeness—for $2 billion. Aside from the fact that this was completely unexpected, there’s a real weirdness factor to this for me. We’re already sharing so much with one another that the effect of introducing Virtual Reality into the equation concerns me. Socially media tends to be a fairly secondary experience. Cyber-bullying aside, there’s a finite space in which it exists. Entering into a social media “world” is akin to some of these movies like “Gamer.” No to mention the fact that it ends with out enslavement in the Matrix… (I kid.)

Facebook’s plans for the headset aren’t immediately apparent, and the social media giant’s announcement of the acquisition does little to clear it up, citing the possibility of using the the headset for things like communication and education along with more obvious things…

To the Woman Behind Me in Line at the Grocery Store

Wonderful

My Patronus Is Coffee

Dear woman behind me in line at the grocery store,

You don’t know me. You have no clue what my life has been like since October 1, 2013. You have no clue that my family has gone through the wringer. You have no clue that we have faced unbelievable hardship. You have no clue we have been humiliated, humbled, destitute.
You have no clue I have cried more days than not; that I fight against bitterness taking control of my heart. You have no clue that my husband’s pride was shattered. You have no clue my kids have had the worries of an adult on their shoulders. You have no clue their innocence was snatched from them for no good reason. You know none of this.

What you do know is I tried to buy my kids some food and that the EBT machine was down so I couldn’t buy…
