Getting started with Simcity BuildIt

humble beginnings

humble beginnings

I started playing SimCity Buildit a few weeks ago and already it’s my new favorite game.   In fact, I haven’t loved playing a game so much on my iPad since I got started on Jurassic Park Builder. But this game has an ability that the other one lacked. The ability to play without needing to be connected to the internet, this is great since I don’t have to worry about not being able to connect to a server for some reason.  Which is why I have this to say:

Finally its happened to me and……you know the rest.

Thank you CeCe.

Now, I told you I just got started playing SimCity Buildit, but already I have some things to share with you that will help you much along the way.

1. Be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither will your city be either.  So enjoy the journey along the way and be happy you don’t have to worry about someone dying because of a bad decision on your part.  You also don’t have to worry about other people trying to take over something you have spent time building.

2. Give the people what they want for you will receive bounteous bounty if you do.

3. You got to spend money to make money. But don’t be a moron, also be cool about fire safety, otherwise your sims will become rather hot with you.

4. Same as #1

5. Repeat steps one, two, three.

That’s all folks…..

For now.

The end of the road

My dear precious Ludia, It’s been so long since I last heard from you, truly I wish you love. Yet, lately I have made some requests of you that while very reasonable, were not taken very seriously by you.

How could you do this to me? After all that we have been through why does it have to come to this?

I remember the good times that we used to share, the hours of conversation we had together. How we  decorated your office, we went shopping to get furniture for your new place.

Yeah we did that.

I thought it was nice how you played with my sister, she even told me how much she enjoyed spending time with you. My brother Ed, on the other hand I thought was being such a hater. Yet he meant well and even told me you was trouble from the start. But I didn’t listen I would say to him:

“You don’t understand her like I do”.

Boy was I fooled, I thought you was an angel in disguise and instead, you turned out to be a devil who wears prada.

Oh well, better to find out now than later, when my love for you would have grown even stronger and it would be that much harder to let you go.

I see none of this matters to you at all, so I am afraid that this is indeed the end of the road.

My annoyances with Jurassic Park Builder

It all started with this guy.

It all started with this guy.

Seems like just yesterday when I started playing this game.  It was in the spring of this year that I was given a gift from my brother, one that caused me to “think different”.  Yes, you may already know, it was an iPad 3.  Not my very first tablet that was a Coby 8024, but that was more of a glorified paper-weight than anything else.

I digress

So anyway not long after getting the iPad I found out about the game “Jurassic Park Builder”, and I immediately started to play it.  One of the things that annoyed me about it early on was that it required me to be online in order to  play it.

To be honest, I thought that was absolutely stupid!!!

A lot of time has gone into this game

A lot of time has gone into this game

Yet, I found that I enjoyed the game play so much that I was willing to be forgiving and continue playing the game.  Something else I got annoyed by was that I would be bothered to merge with Facebook.  Again, I thought that was stupid.

The thing is I don’t wanna play with others in this game.  I just want to enjoy it myself and if you want to add a multi-player to that then OK, let people opt into it and not make it something they get hassled about because that just being pressed.

Yes, I know I did say I love the game despite the things I have spoken of before, and to be honest, now I am concerned that I may have yet another reason to be annoyed with Jurassic Park Builder as A new update has been unveiled.   You will be hearing about that soon.

A little time travel ehh!

supermariohtml_610x375

Goodness, I never know what I am going to come across in a day.  I could be looking for one thing, and BAM!!! something else that I would have never expected catches my attention.

Here is yet another case of that:

Playing Super Mario Bros online!!!

Not only can you play in HTML but you can even create your own levels.   Now, I never had an original Nintendo but I do remember this game as well as Duckhunt which I played online years ago.  Yet this stil takes me back, way back, back into time to when I got my Super Nintendo, I was eight years old when my grandfather purchased it for me.

Some of the games I had were: Super Mario World,  The Lion King, Rocko’s Modern Life:Spunky’s Dangerous Day and others I can’t think of at the moment.

You know what the funny thing is:

I still have it

Although I haven’t played it in about a decade.  In fact I have two since I picked up another one years later. As a result, you can understand why I would be rather excited to come across the following link:

Games I play on Linux

photo (2)

I have lots and lots of games that are available on Linux.  Looking at my list there are 35.  From Solitaire to Super Tux Kart, and that’s just what I have.  Right now on the Ubuntu Software Center there are 548 available and that’s a lot, the vast majority of them being free.

I will share with you some of the ones I have.

1.Solitaire:  I have lot count of the variations of this one game but there has to be close to a hundred.

2.Super Tux Kart: An obvious Super Mario Kart clone, I love this game.

3. Pingus: Remember Lemmings? Well, you’ll love Pingus if you do.

4. Lin-City NG:Like Sim City

5. Micropolis: Like the original Sim City

6. Super Tux: Like Super Mario World

7. Torcs: A racing game, think Need For Speed

I don’t play them very often, but when I do it is absolutely awesome!!

Several of these games are cross-platform, and that’s awesome because that means I can play them on pretty much any machine I have.

Memories of old games

So much time has passed since I started playing games on the computer.  Hmm, my first experiences with them was  when I was in the 1st grade.  Yes, that was over twenty years ago, in 1991.

You know what we used to play games on the computer?

Floppy Disks!!!

In case, you are thinking about the 3.5 inch variety…then you would be wrong.   We used the 5 1/4″ ones, they were huge but they worked.  I don’t remember much about them but it was worth a mention anyway.

Years later, when I was about 9 I can barely remember playing games on the library’s computers.   LOL!! We played Prince of Persia.

What a prodigy I was

Speaking of prodigy….I do not mean the rapper from Mobb Deep either.   I am talking about the online dial-up service.  🙂

It was also around this time I remember hanging out with my mother at Georgetown Park Mall in DC.  We would to to the Learningsmith store and I would play on the computers there for hours and no one cared at all.   There was mostly educational games there made by a company called Broderbund, and they were very enjoyable to play.  One of the games I would play was where you could be a fish and interact with your environment and escape from predators.  I really wish my memory was better but I do recall that I would play it every time we went to the store.

In fact, part of the reason I decided to write this post was to preserve memories, before they are lost forever.

The good old days

Sadly, that store would go out of business and leave me with one less place to go.

Story of my life 😦

Lets fast forward even more to 1997, I was in the 7th grade at the time and I was introduced to a game called Skyroads.  That game would give us hours of entertainment.  In fact, I love that game to this very day.  I think I will do a video of me playing it, although unfortunately its not gonna play on Windows 7 unless you have the XP compatibility pack which I am getting right now.   Also it is not available for Linux.  I will try to install it using WINE on my laptop and PC’s.

Man! I was gonna play it for a while and then get back to the post.  I guess I’ll just have to do that later  😛

Then again… that’s not a bad idea at all.  I’ll do it now.

Rant about the power of Linux

I am trying to install Linux Mint 13 XFCE onto my laptop, and its given me a hard time. I got frustrated with it so I decided to use a Live-DVD of the same operating system instead for the time being. This allows me to use this laptop. despite the issues I am facing with it at the moment.

In fact, I am writing this in a program called LibreOffice which is free office suite that I have fallen in love with since I found out about it. It’s proven to be very useful to me and that’s why I am rather happy to write about it yet again.

Along with being about to read and write documents of various types I am also able to listen to music or watch movies, in addition to using the Internet.

So pretty much anything you can do I can do better. I can do anything better than you.

Of course I am playing (or am I)?

LOL!!!

What I can say is that every single program I would use on here is free. That even includes hundreds of games. No not anything such as World of Warcraft, but to be honest, I don’t play games like that anyway.

To be honest with you, one of my favorite PC games of all time in fact it is my favorite would be Sim City 4 Deluxe edition and while it may be designed for Windows machines I would still be able to play it thanks to a program called Wine.

Speaking of Wine that sounds like something I often hear people doing when it comes to Windows, especially when it comes to Windows 8. Not the first time I have heard of such a thing, and it definitely won’t be the last. Remember Vista?

You know what? I think I know what happened……… Someone took some rocks threw them at Metro and broke the Windows.

Who would do such a thing? Isn’t that awful? Yet that is what happened, and then it was decided that the people who threw the rocks should know that what they did was bad. Yet, they did it any way!!

You know what you can access it here and read it for yourself.

I could also talk about not getting viruses and the like, but I really don’t need to and that discussion has been had so many times at this point its pretty lame to me.

I am happy to have plenty of customization features right at my fingertips as well.

Yes I’m free to do what I want…any old where!!!!

I think I will go into that in more detail another time until then be sure to look where you are going.
